Chappell’s Charles Umstead Takes on Local Real Estate Leadership

Chappell’s Vice President of Developer Services, Charles Umstead, is taking the lead in more ways than one. The busy Chappell broker has his hands in many pots here in the Triangle. For starters, he’s been elected to the Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors, representing more than 10,000 real estate professionals in the area.

In addition, he recently graduated from the William C. Bass Leadership Academy, a program with the NC REALTORS® Association that “identifies, inspires, and mentors emerging leaders in real estate” by teaching professional skills like media training and team building. “It’s a great way to provide training for our business, and to be good leaders for the association,” says Umstead.

Umstead is also involved in the Government Policies & Issues Committee (GPIC) and REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC), plus he’s a State Political Coordinator with NC REALTORS® for Representative Gale Adcock. Both committees serve to endorse candidates and provide insight on the real estate industry to government officials.

As a realtor, this is all additional work for Umstead, but he says that he finds it rewarding. “I put a lot of value on education,” he says. “I’m not only doing my part with training and continued education but helping provide that on the local level.”

Umstead says that the majority of agents will get their license and never take another course, and it’s those things that give him an edge in the market. He’s wrapping up his second leadership program, The Triangle REALTORS® Leadership Academy. “It’s all of the training and classes and courses that help improve you to a point where you can be at the top of your game.” Chappell’s Elyse Appelmann will continue the team’s involvement with her 2023 enrollment into the same program. More details on her achievement will be released at a later date.

Umstead says he’s proud to be a part of an organization that does great work. “We are a large association not only in North Carolina, but nationally. What the association does as a whole to advocate on the behalf of every Triangle realtor is amazing and people don’t realize it. I look forward to serving on the board and spreading awareness on that advocacy.”

“Charles is absolutely an emerging leader in our industry. He’s a talented broker, an engaging teammate, and a fantastic representative,”
said Johnny Chappell, Owner & Broker of Chappell. “He’s curious to learn and constantly looking for ways to improve. I’m incredibly proud of Charles, and confident he’ll add great value to all RRAR members during his time on the Board of Directors.”
